In the period 1993-95 an iron bottom cage and a floating cage for fish culture were tested along the coast of the central Adriatic Sea, at about 11 m of depth. Trials of sea-bream farming were also carried out inside the two structures. Both the cages gave satisfactory results from the technological point of view, because they were of simple assemblage and maintenance and, at the same time, stood well the adverse sea conditions. Sea-breams farmed inside the bottom cage showed good growth rates, while fish inside the floating cage were more affected by currents and waves. Because of this, the bottom cage appears more suitable than the floating one for cultures in open sea areas with shallow water (10-15 m).

Abstract
In the period 1993-95 an iron bottom cage and a floating cage for fish culture were tested along the coast of the central Adriatic Sea, at about 11 m of depth. Trials of sea-bream farming were also carried out inside the two structures. Both the cages gave satisfactory results from the technological point of view, because they were of simple assemblage and maintenance and, at the same time, stood well the adverse sea conditions. Sea-breams farmed inside the bottom cage showed good growth rates, while fish inside the floating cage were more affected by currents and waves. Because of this, the bottom cage appears more suitable than the floating one for cultures in open sea areas with shallow water (10-15 m).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
