There is a wide range of studies that focuses on the effects of formal and informal links among the actors in biotech communities. Geographical location and the capacity to establish long-lasting relationships is a determinant of the success of public policies. This paper contributes to the debate on targets and the effectiveness of networking policies at EU level. We explore knowledge networks, applying Social Network Analysis. We map the relational structure of the biotech community in the Campania region in southern Italy. Our results show a strong public presence that is not connected to the private sector.
