Using official weather records and relating them to topography (height above sea level, distance from the valley bottom, exposure and gradient) a detailed map was constructed for a relatively small hilly area near Florence, Italy showing the most suitable parts for different crops (early or late maturing wine-making or dessert grapes) and the best periods for different cultural procedures in maize. Useful temperatures were calculated using the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, USA) method and the Huglin Index was applied to relate the temperatures to the topography. Potential short- and long-term uses of such maps are discussed.

Abstract
Using official weather records and relating them to topography (height above sea level, distance from the valley bottom, exposure and gradient) a detailed map was constructed for a relatively small hilly area near Florence, Italy showing the most suitable parts for different crops (early or late maturing wine-making or dessert grapes) and the best periods for different cultural procedures in maize. Useful temperatures were calculated using the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, USA) method and the Huglin Index was applied to relate the temperatures to the topography. Potential short- and long-term uses of such maps are discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
