In this paper, a novel algorithm for temperature/strain profile reconstruction, based on Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Analysis (BOTDA) measurements, is proposed and experimentally validated. Experimental measurements have been carried out by means of an original BOTDA configuration. The comparison between reconstruction provided by the classical approach and the proposed one allowed to prove the effectiveness of our algorithm, even when dealing with a reduced number of Brillouin signals and with a lower signal-to-noise ratio.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel algorithm for temperature/strain profile reconstruction, based on Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Analysis (BOTDA) measurements, is proposed and experimentally validated. Experimental measurements have been carried out by means of an original BOTDA configuration. The comparison between reconstruction provided by the classical approach and the proposed one allowed to prove the effectiveness of our algorithm, even when dealing with a reduced number of Brillouin signals and with a lower signal-to-noise ratio.
