We report new experimental results on laser shock wave generation and its subsequent propagation in a suitable optical system in different gases. The experimental results on time evolution of radius and Mach number of the almost spherical shock wave after breakdown obtained by means of holographic technique are compared with the prediction of the self-similar model of a strong point explosion in gas.
