Abstract

On the basis of well-defined correlation between temperature and observed chemical and isotopic composition of the fluids discharged in the Aban thermal district, a model for the regional subsurface circulation is postulated, and the different flow paths of fluids emerging in the heavily exploited Spa areas are identified. Data on dD and d18O in waters, d13C in CO2, CH4, and C2-C4 components, 3He/4He and 40Ar/36Ar ratios in associated gases are coupled to chemical results in order to define the origin of the water, carbon dioxide, methane, light hydrocarbons, helium, and argon, respectively.
