Abstract

An urban scene has been reproduced to evaluate the radio coverage at VHF band computed by a ray-tracing technique developed at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). The results have been compared to those predicted by a set of meaningful statistical models. Though strong departure (in terms of mean attenuation) between the two approaches is noticeable, a good match is encountered for the statistical methods that take into account the complexity of the environment through a suitable set of parameters and, as far as possible, can be adapted to the characteristics of the area under investigation.
