During some experimental campaigns the evaporation rateE was measured in different weather conditions at Padua, 30 km inland, and was computed offshore by means of the Deacon formula. Since at the site inlandE has been found to be strongly dependent on the net flux of radiation ? and offshore on the wind speedv, the ratio of the evaporation rates inland and offshore was related to the ratio ?/v. Instead of the expected linear relationships, the ratio of the evaporation rates varies as the logarithm of ?/v. This finding shows that the above formulae for computingE and the ratio of the evaporation rates are to be considered only as empirical approximations.

Abstract
During some experimental campaigns the evaporation rateE was measured in different weather conditions at Padua, 30 km inland, and was computed offshore by means of the Deacon formula. Since at the site inlandE has been found to be strongly dependent on the net flux of radiation ? and offshore on the wind speedv, the ratio of the evaporation rates inland and offshore was related to the ratio ?/v. Instead of the expected linear relationships, the ratio of the evaporation rates varies as the logarithm of ?/v. This finding shows that the above formulae for computingE and the ratio of the evaporation rates are to be considered only as empirical approximations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
