The tectonic element of Monte Foraporta (also known as Monte Foraporta-Monti della Maddalena Unit) is one among the Mesocenozoic Structural - Stratigraphic Units that form the Campania-Lucania Apennines. In this Unit a late Triassic-Dogger carbonate sequence, about 400 m thick, may be recognized. Most of the deposits were laid down in restricted conditions, largely through resedimentation processes, and show dark grey to blackish colours. Its sequences are well exposed West of the town of Lagonegro, along the Noce River. In this paper some new stratigraphic and tectonic data are briefly exposed and discussed in a preliminary rewiew of the Monte Foraporta Unit. According to our studies this element may be divided at least in four tectonic imbricates, apparently sharing part of their Liassic sequence; from below they are: a) Nizzullo imbricate (white dolomite), b) Carcuni imbricate (black dolomite), c) Manca Tuosciolo imbricate (dolomitic limestone), d) Tempa Pertusata imbricate (black limestone).
