A SPH model addressing the specific issue of accurately evaluating the quantities which are discontinuous across the interface is proposed to simulate multi-fluid flows together with the presence of a free surface. Beyond the specific scheme developed to that purpose, physical models are implemented in the formulation to account for viscous and surface tension effects. Validation results are presented on cases for which reference solutions exist in the literature, and oil/water separation problems are then simulated.

Abstract

A SPH model addressing the specific issue of accurately evaluating the quantities which are discontinuous across the interface is proposed to simulate multi-fluid flows together with the presence of a free surface. Beyond the specific scheme developed to that purpose, physical models are implemented in the formulation to account for viscous and surface tension effects. Validation results are presented on cases for which reference solutions exist in the literature, and oil/water separation problems are then simulated.
