As the use of information technology grows, so does the number of criticaI computer systems: software products need to be evaluated to decide whether relevant quality characteristics meet the requirements of the system according to the objectives of the system itself. In order to evaluate software it is necessary to use a quality model which breaks software quality down into different characteristics. This paper addresses theproblem of defining a quality model for the software components of a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) according to the general-purpose model provided by the standard ISOIIEC 9120.
