The Glutamate Oxalacetate Transaminase (GOT) and Phosphoglucose Isomerase (PGI) isoenzymatic band patterns of nine faba bean populations from Ethiopia and Afghanista were detected using the starch-gel electrophoresis method. The Ethiopian poulations exhibited a high polymorphism for the GOT system, whereas the PGI system was monomorphic for all the studied populations. The polymorphism observed for GOT may allow the identification of variants useful for breeding and for future evaluation of V. faba L. collections.

Abstract

The Glutamate Oxalacetate Transaminase (GOT) and Phosphoglucose Isomerase (PGI) isoenzymatic band patterns of nine faba bean populations from Ethiopia and Afghanista were detected using the starch-gel electrophoresis method. The Ethiopian poulations exhibited a high polymorphism for the GOT system, whereas the PGI system was monomorphic for all the studied populations. The polymorphism observed for GOT may allow the identification of variants useful for breeding and for future evaluation of V. faba L. collections.
