High-power picosecond pulses with very low timing jitter have been produced by monolithic passively mode-locked quantum-dot lasers. 17 GHz trains of 1.3 ps near-Gaussian pulses were demonstrated at an emission wavelength of 1.285 ?m and peak power of 150 mW. Time domain measurements using optical cross correlation showed pulse-to-pulse timing jitter as low as 20 fs/pulse cycle.

Abstract

High-power picosecond pulses with very low timing jitter have been produced by monolithic passively mode-locked quantum-dot lasers. 17 GHz trains of 1.3 ps near-Gaussian pulses were demonstrated at an emission wavelength of 1.285 ?m and peak power of 150 mW. Time domain measurements using optical cross correlation showed pulse-to-pulse timing jitter as low as 20 fs/pulse cycle.
