Internet for blind people: an information point

Internet is undoubtely the most important newcomer of the last few years in the communications fileld. This network is also of great interest in the fileld of disability, particularly visual, as it represents an easy means for information exchange without barriers to access. CNR as create an information point on disability with the WWW server of the Florence Research Area. The main objective of this initiative is to make available information i both a national (in Italian) and an international (in English) scale egarding the study and use of new techologies. The creation of this web site is an attempt to identify the application possibilities offered by this new and powerful communication means for esucationand rehabilitiation, also through careful study or the possible solutions for overcoming the potential barriers to telematic information access. During the course of this work, some software products developed specifically for blind users have been made availableto Internet users. These products hace been developed at IROE-CNR of Florence ans can be accessed through the IROE-CNR FTP server.
