Abstract

The hydrogenation of aceton to isopropanol has been studied in the vapour phase over Pt/Al2O3 catalvsts. The rate law obtained at a total pressure of 1 atm and temperatures between 303 and 363 K is of the form kpa.pH1/2 exp(-44Kjmoli-1.RT-1) . The kinetic results are consistent with a Langmuir - Hinshelwood hydrogenation ntcchanisnr involving a half hvdrogenated species lntl a n,rn-ctintnc.titive chemisorption of acctonc and hvdrogcn on the platinunt surfucc. The spccific activitv (calculatecl per platinum surface atonr) has been fountl t,r bc. s1lurcely dependento n the plat inum par t icles izc. I t is suggestedth at the chcrnisr r rnt iorni t cs are ntacleo l a vcry sntal le n sem ble of plat inunti . r t ( ) l l ts. Kcvnord.:s Acetone; hvcl rogenat io;n k inet ics:P t /A1.Orc atalvsts
