The town of San Leo, rising at the top of a calcarenite-sandstone butte overlying a clay-shale formation, is threatened by failures of the marginal cliff which are related to the evolution of the underlying clay-shale slope. The remedial measures already carried out and those which are being planned are described, as well as the investigation and monitoring program that has recently started with the aim of analyzing the evolution and evaluating the effectiveness of the stabilization measures.
