Abstract

Waveguides were fabricated inside a Bi-doped silica glass using ultrafast laser inscription. When optically pumped at 980 nm, ultra-broadband gain was measured from the waveguides, paving the way for compact ultra-broadband optical amplifiers. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America
