L'Epinomide, vangelo della religione astrale

The 'Epinomis' announces to the Greeks a new religion, based on the worship of the stars. The Athenian goes far beyond the traditional veneration of the Sun and the Moon: he illustrates the genealogy of the astral deities, assigns them the names, defines the look, states festivals and sacrifices - just like Homer and Hesiod for the tradizionale gods. The new revelation is based on the fact that the regular and ordered movements of the stars show their own divine nature; morevor they allow men to acquire the knowledge of the number, which is the basis of all knowledge and of all good. The debt to the most ancient wisdom of the Egyptians and the Syrians is evident and the Athenian does not deny it of course, but claims the merit of the Greeks of perfecting what they learned from the former.

L' 'Epinomide' porta ai greci l'annuncio di una nuova religione, incentrata sul culto degli astri. Rispetto alla tradizionale venerazione per il Sole e la Luna, l'Ateniese procede ben oltre: illustra la genealogia delle divinità astrali, assegna loro i nomi, ne definisce l'aspetto, stabilisce feste e sacrifici - proprio come per le divinità tradizionali avevano fatto Omero ed Esiodo. La nuova rivelazione si fonda sul fatto che i movimenti regolari e ordinati degli astri mostrano la loro natura divina e insieme permettono agli uomini di acquisire quella scienza del numero che è alla base di ogni sapere e di ogni bene. Il debito verso la sapienza più antica degli Egizi e dei Siri è evidente e l'Ateniese non lo nega di certo, ma rivendica il merito dei Greci di saper portare al perfetto compimento quanto appreso da costoro.
