New geological, geochemical and geochronological data are presented for one of the largest peraluminous cordierite-bearing intrusions from the Hercynian Sardinia-Corsica Batholith: the Sos Canales Intrusion. These data show that it consists of at least two distinct magmatic units composed of two-mica monzogranites and granodiorites. The Rb/Sr whole-rocks age obtained on the more felsic unit (298 ± 4 Ma) and the mica ages obtained on both units, ranging from 293 to 299 Ma and from 285 to 290 Ma for muscovite and biotite respectively, indicate that the emplacement of this peraluminous composite intrusion is coeval with that of the more widespread late-tectonic calc-alkaline granitoids in Sardinia.

Abstract
New geological, geochemical and geochronological data are presented for one of the largest peraluminous cordierite-bearing intrusions from the Hercynian Sardinia-Corsica Batholith: the Sos Canales Intrusion. These data show that it consists of at least two distinct magmatic units composed of two-mica monzogranites and granodiorites. The Rb/Sr whole-rocks age obtained on the more felsic unit (298 ± 4 Ma) and the mica ages obtained on both units, ranging from 293 to 299 Ma and from 285 to 290 Ma for muscovite and biotite respectively, indicate that the emplacement of this peraluminous composite intrusion is coeval with that of the more widespread late-tectonic calc-alkaline granitoids in Sardinia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
