The EU right to consular and diplomatic protection exists since 1993. From that moment many efforts and initiatives have been put in place by the European Commission in order to foster this right and to disseminate it all over Europe. Nevertheless as arose in the Citizenship Report of October 2010 the awareness about this right by EU citizens is far from being exhaustive. Therefore, one of the issues at stake seems to be increasing the effectiveness of the right of EU citizens to be assisted in third countries, including in times of crisis, by rendering them aware of their right to consular protection and put them in the situation to concretely understand and exercise it. This contribution investigate which role can be played by ICTs and in which directions this will improve the effective and real knowldege of the rules put in place for EU citizens.
