Zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) substrates were prepared by tape casting. Different compositions with different additions of zirconia were prepared and the relative amounts of t-ZrO2 were determined. The mechanical properties were measured and related to the composition and microstructure. The results were compared to those obtained from pure alumina substrates .. An optimally fabricated material should contain both t- and m-ZrO2.
