Soil salinity is one of the most widespread environmental stress which affects the growth and productivity of crops, and it is typical of arid and semiari regions of the world. The discovery of crop mechanisms for adaptation to salt stress would permit to cultivate "non-vocated" areas and to use saline waters for irrigation. In this research we have studied the effects of irrigation with seawater at the rate of 10% on two ecotypes of sunflower belonging to the cv. Katharina. The results indicate that in plant the response mechanisms to the treatment involve the detoxification of activated oxygen species.
La ssalinità del suolo è uno dei più diffusi stress ambientali che compromette la crescita e la produttività delle colture ed è tipico delle regioni aride e semiaride del mondo. Individuare i eccanismi di adattamento delle colture allo stress salino consentirebbe di destinare all'agricoltura zone altrimenti poco vocate e di utilizzare a scopi irrigui acque saline. In questa indagine sono stati studiati gli effetti dell'irrigazione con miscele al 10% di acqua di mare su due ecotipi di girasole apparteneneti alla varietà Katharina. I risultati indicano che i meccanismi di risposta della pianta coinvolgono la detossificazione delle specie dell'ossigeno.
