A way to overcome the usual diffraction limit of an optical instrument was proposed in 1952 by Toraldo di Francia. This theoretical prediction was recently confirmed by recent microwave experiments. Further microwave investigations, using the same kind of devices, provide the possibility of obtaining a significant concentration of the intensity also along the axial axis.
