Settlement and growth of Mytilus galloprovincialis on an experimental submersed structure for mussels farming in the Bay of Portonovo (Central Adriatic). To test possibilities of a mussel culture in open sea, experiments on seed settlement and mussels growth in cylindrical nylon nettings immersed at 8 m depth were carried out in an artificial reef created in the Bay of Portonovo. Among the material tested, ropes of polyamide fibres proved to be the best collectors for seed. After 15 months from settlement farmed mussels reached an average size of 68 mm.

Abstract
Settlement and growth of Mytilus galloprovincialis on an experimental submersed structure for mussels farming in the Bay of Portonovo (Central Adriatic). To test possibilities of a mussel culture in open sea, experiments on seed settlement and mussels growth in cylindrical nylon nettings immersed at 8 m depth were carried out in an artificial reef created in the Bay of Portonovo. Among the material tested, ropes of polyamide fibres proved to be the best collectors for seed. After 15 months from settlement farmed mussels reached an average size of 68 mm.File in questo prodotto:
