Abstract

C-60 was deposited on Ni(110), Pt(111) and Ag(111) and annealed at different temperatures: by low energy diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy we investigated the structural properties of the overlayer. By valence band and core level photoemission spectroscopy and inverse photoemission we studied the changes induced by adsorption on the electronic properties. C-60 is chemisorbed on the three surfaces and tia charge transfer is found for C-60 On Ni(110) and Ag(lll). Decomposition of Call is Observed on Ni(110) and Pt(lll) above 690 K and 850 K, respectively. The decomposition is a kinetically limited reaction on both surfaces and on Pt(lll) we find a very strongly chemisorbed precursor state for decomposition
