The possibility of using reflection multilayers as wide band circular polarizers in the VUV and soft X-ray region (5-300 eV) is theoretically considered by means of a realistic model. An optimization method for the phase-shifting performances of such multilayer polarizers is proposed and the performances of different multilayers working in several energy windows are discussed.
