The pharmacokinetics of two oral formulations of theophylline, a sustained release and a liquid formulation, have been compared after a single, equivalent dose in six healthy adult volunteers. It was a randomized crossover study with a one week interval between the two different drug administrations. The relative bioavailability of the sustained release formulation in comparison with the liquid form has been 90±10%. The dosage form under investigation has, therefore, proved to possess satisfactory sustained release properties, resulting in a relative bioavailability factor (F) not less than 80%. No unwanted effects have been reported.

Abstract
The pharmacokinetics of two oral formulations of theophylline, a sustained release and a liquid formulation, have been compared after a single, equivalent dose in six healthy adult volunteers. It was a randomized crossover study with a one week interval between the two different drug administrations. The relative bioavailability of the sustained release formulation in comparison with the liquid form has been 90±10%. The dosage form under investigation has, therefore, proved to possess satisfactory sustained release properties, resulting in a relative bioavailability factor (F) not less than 80%. No unwanted effects have been reported.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
