Abstract

This work analyses detailed numerical results, obtained via two-dimensional CFD simulation, of premixed propane-air flames propagation when approaching a parallel plates flame arrestor. The study elucidates the dominant mechanism of quenching for lean mixtures in downward and upward flame propagation, near-extinction limit conditions. Non-realistic cases are also explored in order to identify the dominant quenching mechanisms, which is found to be heat transfer the cold wall rather than flame strain.
