Biocomposites based on biodegradable polyesters containing wool or hemp fibers, as received or properly modified, were prepared by melt blending. Their morphology, thermal and mechanical properties were investigated and related to fiber length and distribution, fi-ber/matrix interaction, and polymer reinforcement. Mechanical properties of the wool-based composites were compared with theoretical previsions to obtain information on fiber ar-rangement and dimension as well as on fiber/matrix adhesion.

Abstract

Biocomposites based on biodegradable polyesters containing wool or hemp fibers, as received or properly modified, were prepared by melt blending. Their morphology, thermal and mechanical properties were investigated and related to fiber length and distribution, fi-ber/matrix interaction, and polymer reinforcement. Mechanical properties of the wool-based composites were compared with theoretical previsions to obtain information on fiber ar-rangement and dimension as well as on fiber/matrix adhesion.
