The IMCMI project, already presented in 2009 at the 4th International Congress on "Science and technology for the Safeguard of Cultural Heritage in the Mediterranean Basin", is in line with EU directives. The particular interest of the project geared to promote the meeting between immigrants and cultures of origin through the evidence of North Africa's ancient civilizations, found in Italian public and private collections, offers an excellent opportunity to experiment new strategies for the use and enhancement of this specific archaeological heritage. The IMCMI project is divided into several sections already identified in 2009, improved by continual research, and can now be presented in a more defined and organized way: oWide and articulated research on the boundary sanctuaries, intended and designed as meeting and integration places; study of antique collecting and the figure of travellers, from ancient to modern times, as evidence of interest in cultural diversity and as intercultural laboratories. oDesign and implementation of activities aimed to improve and promote the cultural heritage of North Africa focusing on school-age children in particular and second generation migrants in general, through specific didactic modules and preparation of relevant intercultural paths flanked by recreational activities, including, in particular, events for schools and theatres that have topics resulting from scientific research in progress as their theme. oDelivery of services and applications which will ensure growth and enrichment of the key-project through a web portal. Creation of a web site for remote interactive education, through the use of a technology platform (Learning Management System LMS). The target of the IMCMI project is the cultural development of North African migrants for better integration, but it should not lose sight of its essential, final, qualifying aim, connected to the recovery of the common Mediterranean roots to promote the construction of a cohesive, common social tissue.
