This preliminary presentation and the one of 2005 (Biscione 2005) are the only publications in a western language of the results of a very important testing trench excavated in the tepe of Hamadan, Iran, identified with ancient Ecbatana, the capital of the Median empire. The aim was to check the sequence of the site and to date a very large architectural complex with a hippodamean plan excavated in the Eighties, never fully published and never dated. Most probably no other information on this testing pit will be published. Presentation of the results of the firs fiel season. 5 building levels were exposed, the upper 4 very late (Qajar - Pahlavi periods, about 1900-1975 AD) and the deepest of the Sasanian period, with Parthian pottery under the floors. The hippodamean architecture was not reached, therefore it must have been of Parthian period. An Aramaic ostrakon was found out of context.
