La tutela dei centri storici dal rischio sismico investe sempre più competenze e specializzazioni differenti come quelle operanti nel campo della geologia, dell'ingegneria e della sismologia. Rilievo assume l'analisi di due aspetti: la valutazione delle caratteristiche geologiche e geotecniche e l'identificazione dei danni prodotti da terremoti del passato.
