The systemic analysis, based on the three dimensions of sustainability, reveals the crisis of contemporary cities, as dissipative systems of environmental, social and economic non-renewable resources. Starting from the new localism, defined as a post-global vision of the city where multiculturalism is combined with the local identities, our proposal is expressed by two complementary action areas, energy saving and car-free. The first major challenge is the energy consumption reduction through integrated strategies for energy saving, at urban and building scale, to achieve zero-emissions city. In car-free cities projects, the role of cars is greatly reduced through the re-design and re-organization of compact urban activities, to reduce consumptions and emissions.

Abstract
The systemic analysis, based on the three dimensions of sustainability, reveals the crisis of contemporary cities, as dissipative systems of environmental, social and economic non-renewable resources. Starting from the new localism, defined as a post-global vision of the city where multiculturalism is combined with the local identities, our proposal is expressed by two complementary action areas, energy saving and car-free. The first major challenge is the energy consumption reduction through integrated strategies for energy saving, at urban and building scale, to achieve zero-emissions city. In car-free cities projects, the role of cars is greatly reduced through the re-design and re-organization of compact urban activities, to reduce consumptions and emissions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
