The aim of this study was to investigate some reproductive aspects of Norway lobster females (Nephrops norvegicus), such as season of ovarian maturation, brooding period, size at first maturity, sex ratio, in the central Adriatic Sea. The ovaries were examined macroscopically and classified into six stages of development. The relative frequency of females in different stages of maturation and berried conditions were observed during different seasons. The reproductive period was evaluated both in terms of "ovarian maturation" than "brooding period". The ovarian maturation starts in April and reach a peak in June, while brooding period shows maxima values in November. Berried females were very abundant in autumn when they increased their burrowing behavior and the sex ratio showed a shift towards males. The length at first maturity was 29.98 mm carapace length.
