CoPt3/Pt thin films have been deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition on MgO (1 0 0) at different temperatures. Both the underlayer and the magnetic layer grew epitaxially with a crystallographic orientation that depended on the deposition temperature. Magnetization reversal processes have been investigated by recoil loops measurements: the dependence of the reversible magnetization on the irreversible component is characteristic of a material which undergoes domain wall bowing. The correlation between the reversal mechanisms and films microstructure and morphology is discussed.

Abstract

CoPt3/Pt thin films have been deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition on MgO (1 0 0) at different temperatures. Both the underlayer and the magnetic layer grew epitaxially with a crystallographic orientation that depended on the deposition temperature. Magnetization reversal processes have been investigated by recoil loops measurements: the dependence of the reversible magnetization on the irreversible component is characteristic of a material which undergoes domain wall bowing. The correlation between the reversal mechanisms and films microstructure and morphology is discussed.
