An integrated multi-layer waveguide has been realised in order to be employed for the detection of low humidity concentration. Using such a waveguide we measured the phase changes induced by diffusion of water vapour into the structure as well as the absolute sign of the fringe movement. It offers a promising possibility to fabricate a compact, disposable and low cost optical-sensing device.
