An interdisciplinary approach for the restoration of old monuments and ancient buildings of historical and architectural value is nowadays widely accepted as the key to the assessment of the problem, and hence to the evaluation of an appropriate solution. This paper reports an interesting example of fruitful cooperation between specialists having widely different backgrounds, provided by the analyses performed for the restoration of the Church "Madonna della Pieta" in Irsina (Matera, Italy). The analyses, carried out by a team composed of an architect, a geotechnical engineer, a geologist and a structural engineer, provided a reasonable interpretation of the damages that had occurred, and allowed us to evaluate different solutions for the restoration of the Church.

Abstract
An interdisciplinary approach for the restoration of old monuments and ancient buildings of historical and architectural value is nowadays widely accepted as the key to the assessment of the problem, and hence to the evaluation of an appropriate solution. This paper reports an interesting example of fruitful cooperation between specialists having widely different backgrounds, provided by the analyses performed for the restoration of the Church "Madonna della Pieta" in Irsina (Matera, Italy). The analyses, carried out by a team composed of an architect, a geotechnical engineer, a geologist and a structural engineer, provided a reasonable interpretation of the damages that had occurred, and allowed us to evaluate different solutions for the restoration of the Church.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
