A geological Field survey of the Quaternary sediments of Socotra was carried Out during summer 1998. The presence Of Such sediments in marine terraces and fluvial systems was recorded for the First time. Additionally, Pleistocene to Holocene continental deposits were sampled in order to search for fossil vertebrates and ostracods. No vertebrate remains have been recovered, but a diverse ostracod fauna was recorded. Eight different taxa were identified and these exhibit several endemic features.
