An extensional flow involving water-in-oil emulsification is created in an impinging micro-channel. A focalised beam of laser light is polarised in the direction of the channel, and its amount of collected light through the emulsion is measured. Polarised light is expected to be more interacting with stretched and elongated droplets. The obtained mappings of four different flow patterns confirm the observations of Segre and Silbergerg in suspensions across micro-channels.

Abstract
An extensional flow involving water-in-oil emulsification is created in an impinging micro-channel. A focalised beam of laser light is polarised in the direction of the channel, and its amount of collected light through the emulsion is measured. Polarised light is expected to be more interacting with stretched and elongated droplets. The obtained mappings of four different flow patterns confirm the observations of Segre and Silbergerg in suspensions across micro-channels.File in questo prodotto:
