The paper focuses on Aristotle's reflection about practical rules ('prescription theme'), and provides a survey on the types of reasoning Aristotle considers appropriate in the formulation of rules. These types are deliberation and practical syllogism which, unlike what some interpreters recently reaffirm, are closely related. The result of the inquiry is that a prescription may be estimated as the arrival point of a deliberative reasoning (analogous to the 'choice'), and at the same time as the conclusion of a syllogism, because we can justify it by showing its cause.
