During the last few years LiDAR (Light Detection And Rating) data has been used to study forest biometric parameters (e.g. tree height, crown shape, forest biomass, etc.). In the current paper a methodology was developed to estimate tree height and crown shape of pine trees (Pinus pinea L.) situated within the Natural Park of San Rossore. In particular, the main aim was to develop a methodology that, starting from xyz data, is capable of determining height and crown shape of each single tree. This activity is based on the development of an innovative procedure to create the Digital Surface Model (DSM) using the maxima of the two-pulse images; the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) was then created based on the minima of the second pulse.

Abstract
During the last few years LiDAR (Light Detection And Rating) data has been used to study forest biometric parameters (e.g. tree height, crown shape, forest biomass, etc.). In the current paper a methodology was developed to estimate tree height and crown shape of pine trees (Pinus pinea L.) situated within the Natural Park of San Rossore. In particular, the main aim was to develop a methodology that, starting from xyz data, is capable of determining height and crown shape of each single tree. This activity is based on the development of an innovative procedure to create the Digital Surface Model (DSM) using the maxima of the two-pulse images; the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) was then created based on the minima of the second pulse.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
