Il lessico dello spazio in Lucrezio

The examination of lDe Rerum Natura's lexicon allows to reconstruct the essential lines through which develops the reflection of atomists around the space. 'Inane' is the fundamental term that translates the greek 'to kenon', the void, one of the principles of reality along with the full. One founds here two different interlacing concepts: on the one hand, void and empty bodies are mutually exclusive; on the other, empty is the container in which the bodies are placed and move. 'Locus, spatium, vacuum, intactile' are the words' family through which Lucretius expresses this dual perspective.

L'esame del lessico del 'De rerum natura' consente di ricostruire le linee essenziali attraverso cui si sviluppa la riflessione degli atomisti intorno allo spazio. 'Inane' è il termine fondamentale che rende il greco 'to kenon', il vuoto, uno dei principi della realtà insieme al pieno. Si trovano qui intrecciate fra loro due diverse concezioni: da una parte corpi e vuoto si escludono a vicenda, dall'altra il vuoto è il contenitore in cui i corpi sono collocati e si muovono. 'Locus, spatium, vacuum, intactile' sono la famiglia di parole attraverso cui Lucrezio esprime questa duplice prospettiva.
