The conservative action carried out on the Bedestan has been based on a preliminary phase of integrated survey defined as the systematic study of the historical, physical and architectural information regarding the monument. The aim was to identify the building events leading up to the present state of ruin and to guide the instrumental investigations needed to measure and describe the state of conservation. Analysis of the nature of the soil and the characteristics of the materials has been combined with geophysical prospecting in order to obtain reliable data of use in making the decisions regarding consolidation and conservation of the architectural structures. The first phase of the project to improve the Bedestan complex involved subjecting the monument to a fact-finding survey, involving the simultaneous use of different methods, before proceeding with the restoration project. Its implementation called for action by a team of specialists in the disciplines applied to obtain the preliminary information essential for a methodologically correct restoration action .
