The new selected clones of important cultivar of Calabria: Gaglioppo, Magliocco dolce and Pecorello. The Calabria Region boasts a wide and original patrimony of varieties, which represents at the same time a richness and a limit because of the complex interlacement of synonymies and homonymies. Varietal identification problems, lack of selection and generalized spread of virus diseases limit the full expression of the potentiality of local varieties. In order to face this critical situation, in 2006, an important experimental project was started, focused to the selection of clones genetically and virologically improved of the cultivars Gaglioppo, Magliocco dolce (although officially named as Greco nero), and Pecorello. Three years study ended in 2013 with the request to the Ministry of Agriculture for the homologation and the registration of the following selected clones: Gaglioppo Librandi CVT 75, 80, 164 e 165; Greco nero (biotype Magliocco dolce) Librandi CVT 38, 41, 48 e 68; Pecorello Librandi CVT 6.
