We report the first diode-pumped laser oscillation of Pr:BaY2F8 in the green spectral range, related crystal growth and basic spectroscopic properties. Furthermore, recent results of experiments with Pr:LiYF4, showing efficient green laser action, are presented. © 2010 Optical Society of America.
