The water entry of plates at high horizontal speed is investigated experimentally in this work. The motivation for this study stems from the aeronautical field and in particular from aircraft ditching analysis with the objective of developing more accurate and reliable simulation tools for aircraft manufacturers to be used within design and certification. In order to build an experimental database to support the validation of the methods, a new experimental facility has been designed and installed at CNR-INSEAN. In this paper some of the results in terms of pressures, strains and forces are presented and discussed for two test conditions. Particular attention is paid to the assessment of the dispersion of the data and the repeatability of the experiments. Some of the key physical aspects of the phenomenon are also discussed.
