In this contribution, we present a full-wave analysis of commonly encountered. optical periodic structures by the Transmission Line Matrix-Integral Equation (TLM-IE) method. The aims of our effort are: i) to analyze the mode-coupling mechanism of the periodic structure; ii) to define the effect of discontinuities in terms of hybrid field; iii) to optimize for the Q-factor of integrated optical reflection grating. The post-processing tools of the TLM-IE solver provide visualization and physical insight into the dynamics of EM propagation in such devices.
