We present a theoretical approach in view to design a 2D MESA periodic structure. The model is based on Floquet's theory under the hypotheses of (i) low dielectric contrast and (ii) absence of corner diffraction, and derives the characteristics equations by the wavenumber conservation. The theory is validated by using a standard FEM simulator, which confirms the location of resonances and gives insight about the electromagnetic field behavior. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract

We present a theoretical approach in view to design a 2D MESA periodic structure. The model is based on Floquet's theory under the hypotheses of (i) low dielectric contrast and (ii) absence of corner diffraction, and derives the characteristics equations by the wavenumber conservation. The theory is validated by using a standard FEM simulator, which confirms the location of resonances and gives insight about the electromagnetic field behavior. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
