Geochemical and mineral data coming from several prospections carried out in Sardinia were considered to select the most promising area for REE-anomalies. The skarns of Central Sardinia, the lodes of the granitoid complex (Northern Sardinia), the oolitic ferroan lenses of Nurra (NW Sardinia), the albitites of Buddusò (Central Sardinia) and metamorphic rocks at Posada Valley (NE Sardinia) were sampled and investigated to determine mineral paragenesis and chemical composition. Several selected samples, characterized by high Ce-La anomalies, were investigated by ICP-MS technique for studies on REE patterns.

Abstract

REE-bearing deposits in the world are associated to several different lithologies and geological environments. REE-bearing mineralization occurs both in magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The prospection was carried out on well-known geological formations as possible host rocks of REE mineralization.
