Heterotrophic and luminous bacteria, leucine aminopeptidase and alkaline phosphatase and the main hydrological parameters were measured in the Western Mediterranean Sea, to improve knowledge on the microbial distribution and role at epi-, meso- and bathy-pelagic layers. Hot spots of abundance and activity were found also at meso- and bathy-pelagic layers, probably related to water circulation dynamics.
